Well i couldn't help myself, i've always wanted a late mid to late finned V8 yank and with the prices of 55 and 57 Chevy's i didn't think it would happen... then i spotted this at Pomona and just couldn't stop thinking about it and looking at the pics so this evening i drove up to the guys house for a proper look and a test drive... needless to say a deposit has been left Smile

It's a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief in original paint, i love the 2 tone green! Originally from Arizona, it's running it's original 347ci V8 and 3 speed auto box, the paint is faded with slight surface rust and the intereior is near pefect!( the seats must have been covered with seat covers most it's life). it runs and drives like... er a boat Laughing and has only one tiny rust hole at the bottom of one of the front wings. the underside is like new! i've never liked 4 door saloon cars but this one just seems to work in my eyes. they did a pillarless 2 door but i like the big square door tops and the smaller side windows... in actual fact i'm chuffed to bits with it! Smile

Anyone want to buy a 54 Cevy Belair or a 63 Buick Riviera? Laughing

The Pontiac has arrived... it bares a couple of shipping battle scars which i'm really pissed off about but hey ho... it's here and now i remember why it stopped me in my tracks on that day at Pomona swap meet Smile

I MOT'd and registered the Pohtiac about a month ago and in the last couple of weeks have been using it daily, it's amazing what a good service, a play with the carb and timing plus adjusted the(way out) front tracking and tightened up indicator switch has done, even the smallest improvements/ repairs can make such a difference to the pleasure of driving such a car. it actually drives really nice and smoothly and is reasonable on acceleration if needed... although it is the kinda car which suits the slow cruise, arm out the window type driving for sure Smile

i also flatted and blew in the damaged paint on the bootlid, welded up the rust on the lower front wing and straightened out a crease in the lower rear wing/arch before painting the whole lower R/H side. I cleaned most of the rust staining off the rest of the paintwork with scotchbrite and penertrating oil and then wax polished it. it looks so much cleaner and just needs a good compound polish to bring the shine back.

so anyway yes it is a little heavy on petrol but improved after the mechanical work i've done on it and to be honest i get such a buzz out of driving it i really don't care on how many miles to the gallon it does or indeed doesn't do Smile
