| Top....Top.....Bus. Could you tell me the measurement between the chassis and the swing arm, also the chassis and drive shaft....when just sat there. I'm trying to work out how low I can go for the time being. Tim...if you are watching, same question? And have you teaken the 12mm lip off the chassis? | |

And have you teaken the 12mm lip off the chassis? I think there's about 20mm between the driveshaft and the chassis seam on both buses. the bump stop is cut down to just less than a third. it must hit the bump stop a lot when driving but you never feel it and the ride is very reasonable for the height. it's pretty much all down to tyre size, Steve(Ego)'s running 185/60 15's so still has some rake and the gearing is a little low. mine's running 175/55 15's so it sits pretty much level. it's running a 1303s box and the gearing is spot on for cruising... could do with a bit more power up the hills though, it's still running the 1600 singleport lump. it is however fantastic on gas i don't see any reason to take the chassis seam off as if you go any lower on the suspension you'll have to start hacking the bump stop assembly off which part of the original structure of the bus. i'm not into hacking where i don't have too... shall i add a tech section? Steve your bus is looking ever tough! gearbox adapter kit is on the way dude...

| Thanks Tim. A tech section would be good , as long as you don't mind answering my dumn questions . So to get mine to maximum drop I need to cut 2/3 offmy bumpstop and allow a 20mm gap! Sorry Steve, this is not a highjack, I just love the stance on yours and Tims buses. Van Envy | |

| Cheers fella's -I'm hi-jacking my thread back now! I reckon it'll look even tougher with over-riders. Only a couple of things to do to the exterior to achieve perfection in my eyes Patina'd front badge and rear bumper, and a rack wouldnt go amiss either. That about all I think. and some more stickers.. | |

It did look awsome as stock....but I think you get full marks for wheels and stance, and the interior does it full justice.

| Just had the bus serviced last weekend and had my first chance to look underneath it - its like new! Couldn't stop smiling the rest of the weekend. The guy who did the work (Tom who used to work at T3D) couldn't believe how good it was. He said it was probably the best he's seen. Very complementary about the front end work too Tim Should be picking up the rack this weekend - more photos to follow. | |

| Cheers guys - apparently its a genuine American VW bay window rack from the 70's. Mark had been saving it for ages but as he's selling the 68 deluxe he didnt have anything suitable to put it on anymore. I like its finish at the moment - sort of graphite grey with lots of chips out of the paint. I'll keep it like that I reckon. | |

| I remember when we found your bus....had been in the same family since new.....the owner, who was the son of the original owner, said "the only slight wear and tear to the paintwork is where my arm has been out of the window for the last 20 years".....amazing bus....I agree with Tim, over the last year of looking pretty much daily for OG buses in the dry States, its probably the best we've brought in....dont ever sell it.....! |

| No updates on the bus lately (new door seals aren't that interesting), but found this cool pic on facebook recently. Me and Grazy at Vanfest this year and our mini-earlybay camping spot. I can't wait for next season | |

| Hi Steve
I remember seeing your bus again at Vanfest, at the end of the Early bay line up.....I was hiding at the other end of the line up in my slightly (much) higher bay.
Lets hope for a bigger line up next year!
Any plans for the bus over the rainy season?

| Yeah Jon... I've got a few plans for it. First up is the gearbox conversion, then I'm sorting the interior out after Christmas - ply panels, insulation, re-upholster the westy seats, re-furbish the units. I'll try and make it look like a stock westy in the back pretty much. I'd like to get some OG westy cushions but if I can't source any then I'll go with a close match to the cab seat colour. Should hopefully get it done for the start of the season Also need to do the cab door cards as they are being currently destroyed by the rain  The vanfest line-up was pretty good in the end - definitely the biggest earlybay line-up of the year. Are you doing Deva again next year? | |

| Sounds like you are going to be busy.
I have a garage full of westy interior at the moment I'm trying to rebuild to fit in my 71.
I managed to stop the door cards getting ruined by:
Getting rid of door speakers, buying some clear plastic sheeting (thick), srayed alot of waxoil into the door, spray glued around the edge of the door. I placed the plastic over the door and used a sharp blade to trim. I also drilled an extra hole in the bottom of the door. I never really had any problems after that with water.
I may be going to Deva, it just depends on the weather and if it clashes with Bristol Volks Fest......which is only down the road for me.
