I'm trying to decide what kind of finish it needs.
Some sort of varnish or woodstain or maybe some detail in paint?

I think the next ones need to dry out slower as this one has some splits starting to form.

I think maybe a bit of subtle deailing with woodstain then a couple of coats of satin varnish...

i think you really need wood that's already seasoned then it will already be dried out and you wont get the cracking.

Cheers Tim. It looks a bit rough close up but I think thats part of its appeal.

I've just got a fresh log so i'll try and get the time it takes to carve down a bit.

No its still the same wood, from the same tree infact.
I've got myself some better tools though. Makes one hell of a difference.

I finally got round to seeing your feature in the magazine. Looks realy cool.

Cheers for the comments guys

I'd like to sell them at some point but i've no idea how to price them.

Plus they really need to dry out more. At the moment they're in the garage and shed but putting them in a warm environment might cause them to crack or split.
